indie Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Hello Please help... I have had a lap top for a year, and when I had a naff web dongle, I had no issue connecting to the internet Dongle contract is gone, and I kind of miss it, but pointless paying out for one if your house/flat has a broadband connection (It's Virgin here) I have a Mac, which scans and locates my broadband, I have a phone that can connect to the Broadband via Wifi. But I can not work out how I can connect on my lap top. I have added it all etc, but I get this very annoying box come up saying it can not locate a connection. I am on Windows 7 (Was Vista but upgraded) and own a Dell Latitude D531 Any advice appreciated! http://www.flickr.com/photos/26186290@N08/5304631114/ Quote
KenB Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Start > Run ...type in ....devmgmt.msc .....ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters. Are there any yellow exclamation marks ? Is there a wifi device listed? Is there a monitor icon bottom right of the screen ? If so - right click > Connect to a network. Can you see your network? Try connecting. Please answer all questions. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 No Wifi thing came up You will not be able to connect wirelessly if there is no adapter showing in Device Manager. You say that this is an upgrade from Vista to Win7. Have you been able to connect with Win7 installed or has the problem arisen since ? Did this machine have Vista as the original OS ? Dell Wireless 1390 (802.11g), Dell Wireless 1490 (802.11a/g), Dell Wireless 1505 (802.11a/g/n) These wireless options are listed here: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/latit/en/spec_latit_d531_en.pdf I suspect this is a driver compatibility issue.
