tcscott Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Hi everyone I have a Compaq Presario F700 with a Super Multi DVD Rewrite Model GSA-T20N. My operating System is Windows Vista. The Drive use to work great, now it dosn't even show up in explorer. I have gone to the control Panel and looked under hardware and it isn't showing up there either. When I put a DVD into the drive it spins for a few seconds and then stops. I have tried different DVD's and also tried them in another computer and they work there. Any ideas on what my problem might be. Quote
KenB Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Hi and welcome to fpch. Start > Run ...type in .....devmgmt.msc....ENTER Click the + next to DVD CD drives Are there any yellow exclamation marks? Is the drive listed? If it is - try right clicking on the drive then update driver. If this fails ... Same process but uninstall Reboot. Your drive should be detected as new hardware and the drivers re-installed. PseFrank Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Edit to reflect that Ken posted while I was typing..Lol Hi Tcscott, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Can you see your CD drive in the Device Manager? Go... Start Right click Computer Click Manage Click Device Manager Click the small plus sign to the left of DVD/CD-Rom Drives. Right click on the drive and select Uninstall. Reboot the computer After restarting your laptop, windows will find the drive again. Of course it is possible that there is a hardware problem with the drive its self. Let us know how you get on. tcscott Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Sorry for tye delay in trying out your solution, The drive isn't listed in the device mangerment screen, Also I have removed the drive and put back in thinking that it would pick up the drive ad install as a new drive. The drive lights up and spins for a few seconds and then stops. It still dosn't work. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Hi, sorry to say but considering it isn't listed in device management, and it wasn't picked up when removed and re-installed, it looks like it may have died altogether. Before buying a new one to replace it, if it is possible to try installing it in another computer that will confirm or otherwise. If it is OK the other computer will hopefully see it and install it. If not then it is duff. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation.
