WiFi does not function anymore

I tried to repair it. I rebooted my router. No way. No wireless networks

are found in range and my laptop is next to my router. WiFi is found easily

by my PPC.

Re: WiFi does not function anymore

Most laptops have wifi switch to let users turn it on/off. Is yours switched

off by any chance?

Is your router Linksys brand and have you recently installed SP3?

Curious where you're going with this question. Is there an issue between

Linksys and WinXP SP3?

I have Linksys WRT54G, Linksys WUSB54G and WinXP SP3 at home. No problems at

all.

And what response or thread would that be? Many people have some of the

*same* problems and look for solutions. *I* have that problem with wireless,

but so far, no one has answered the question. Why join in the thread if not

to help *people*?

I have owned this laptop for over 2 years and have never seen a WiFi switch.

It is the Sony Vaio T VGN-T270P.

Re: WiFi does not function anymore

According to user manual (VGNT200series.pdf), page 8 - locating controls and

ports, there's a WiFi switch on (what appears to me) the back of the laptop

or it could be the front.

Get the manual at:

Re: WiFi does not function anymore

You are absolutely right. Now that I see it, I remember noticing it when I

first got my machine, more than 2 years ago, and I had forgotten about it.

I never used it and it was still in "on" position so it didn't solve my

problem but thank you for looking into it.

That's correct. Wireless Access Point is your router.

So, what happens when you connect (wirelessly) to your router? Do you get

prompted for a password (if your wifi is secured)? Do you see any error or

warning window?

Re: WiFi does not function anymore

If your Wireless equipment is using WPA2 based security, XP may

not correctly identify/connect. There is a KB article/patch to allow

XP machines to use and access WPA2 secured networks.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893357

*Not sure whether this is included with XP Service Pack 3, but

would assume that it is.

Re: WiFi does not function anymore

John, I just recovered my WiFi access, thanks to the enlightened help of

Paul G Tobey in the thread How to reinstall Bluetooth radio.

Before the bug was fixed, when I tried to connect wirelessly to my router

nothing happened, the computer tried to connect for a while and after a

while just gave up without prompting me for anything and without error or

warning window.

That is correct. SP3 includes WPA2 support.
