On the Windows Explorer window, the color of the folder icon got changed. I

don't know how it happened. It is now showing in a different color than the

standard one, that is yellow. I tried selecting the correct icon from the

Customize tab of the Properties dialog box. But, it is not changing. Also, I

tried the Restore Default option also. Can someone help me in this.

Thanks.

Re: Folder icon color got changed

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point in time before the folders

changed colors?

Re: Folder icon color got changed

See Windows Help and Support, Pick a task, Undo changes to your computer

with System Restore

Re: Folder icon color got changed

Is this happening only in Thumbnail view?

Also, does this affect all folders, or only one in particular?

Re: Folder icon color got changed

It is happening in all the views (detail, thumbnail, icon, list etc.).

It affects all the folders.

But, when a folder is open, the icon shown in the folder list (displayed on

the left side of the window) for that folder is in the standard color (open

folder icon).

This is happening only in the Windows Explorer. If I use IE and open the

contents of a drive, it shows in standard color.

I tried a system restore to the point where the problem started. But, it

also didnt solve the problem. Please help.

Thanks.

Click Start, Run. Type "regedit.exe and press ENTER

Go to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

|_ SOFTWARE

|__ Microsoft

|___ Windows

|____ CurrentVersion

|_____ Explorer

|______ Shell Icons

From the File menu, choose Export. Save the branch to a .REG file.

Open the .REG file using Notepad. Copy the contents and post here.

Re: Folder icon color got changed

The problem fot fixed. I searched in the "Help and Support" and got a

resolution.

1. Right-click the desktop and then click "Properties".

2. Click the "Settings" tab.

3. Change the color depth from the current setting to a new setting. For

example, change from "Highest (32 bit)" to "Lowest (16 bit)".

4. Click "Apply", and then click "Yes" to accept the changes.

5. Change the color depth back to its original setting.

6. Click "Apply", and then click "Yes" to accept the changes.

Thanks.
