Hi there i have been trying to solve this problem for month now. My laptop works fine without my dvd drive installed, but when i try to instal the dvd drive the computer just keeps restartin when booting, the dvd drive does have power going to it as the tray opens and shuts, i have tried another dvd drive which i know is working fine and it does the same. also i have tried booting in safe mode and running registry fixers and also scanned for viruses but it still does the same. if i swith my laptop on with the dvd drive not installed then slide it in and screw it in place the laptop wont swich off and restart but the drive will not even shot up in device manager, aslo tried downloding driver for it and inserting the drive after the laptop has started but when i run the driver it says driver not found

Any help would be much appriciated as its driving me man

If no one else answers I see a few problems.

1. It's an Advent. No support there. Once sold the problems are yours.

2. Windows 7 Professional and 1.5 Gb of RAM. I'm surprised it even runs.

3. You ran registry fixing programs. If anything that screwed things up worse.

Where did you buy these mcgawn?

What I see is Windows 7 on an older laptop that is unable to run such a new Windows software...

The laptop hardware drivers are not available in some cases to run on your older machine with Windows 7.

A bad or incompatable hardware driver or incompatacle hardware will make the machine reboot.

I would simply say older machine that is not fully capable of running Windows 7...............

Did you even run Windows 7 upgrade advisor at all?

I would go back to XP wich the laptop is able to run and were hardware drivers are available.

Re dvd drive

yes i ran the upgrade and it is compatible, also put xp on it and it does the same also it says vista compatible on the front so surely if it can run vista it can run windows 7 or else the upgrade to windows 7 is lying also everthing works just not the dvd drive its driving me mad lol

Have you turned on automatic updates and gully updated the machine?

Are you able to test the drive on another laptop?

As you added another drive and the same thing happened this maybe a fault with the connection internaly or a broken pin or loose pin internaly...Ot another hardware fault.
