Off topic but help needed please

This is definitely the best place to get decent information.

I am using xp pro and IE6

I download many astronomy pages and a lot of them use java applets.

Is there any way to be able to view these applets offline??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

What about saving those web pages as .mht files (archives)? (one of the

options for saving web pages, in the Save As dialog box)

I can save the pages with text and pics etc.... but the applets refuse to

play once I have gone off line, closed the page and re-opened it again.

I would try to figure it out if you would post a link to an applet you are

trying to save.

So you explicitly saved those weeb pages in the .MHT file format, and that's

still what happens? (I'm not sure how you saved them)

Thanx Bill. I can save any pages in html or htm but when I close them and go

off line the applets will not work.

You have already been asked twice to provide a link to the page. I'll

bet you that once you do this, someone here will be able to give you a

definitive answer.

Saving them as simple html or htm will NOT do it. They either need to be

saved as Web Page Complete, OR Web Archive (preferred), not just a single

htm or html file.

Bill it doesn't matter which format I save in, the applets will not work

after I have gone off line and closed and reopened the page!

It really is pointless to give any single page, this happens every time I

download any page with a java applet.

Pick a page. Tell someone else to try the same page.

Until you do, you'll get nowhere here.

OK. The following is just one of many I have tried

http://ulysses-ops.jpl.esa.int/ulsfct/rgpCafe/solsys/solsys.html

The applet works fine. I disconnect from the internet having saved the page

in all formats. Close the page. Reopen the page - applet has gone.

Pleas remember I am on a dial up and disconnect completely from the net. If

you stay on line the applet works forever.

I'm not sure this is possible. I tried to download the applet directly

by entering the following in my address bar:

http://ulysses-ops.jpl.esa.int/SolSyst.class

The result:

<quote>

The server was unable to return the requested document because access

controls placed on that document by the HTTP server deny access.

Please check with the web master for configuration corrections.

Heck, that file doesn't even save properly here. I'm on broadband and

it won't work.

I think it's a "save" problem.

You got the best available. When two of us attempted to download a

page from the URL you provided, it was clear to both of us (and we

replied to you) that the page wasn't fully saving to disk.

In my case, I knew it the minute I attempted to save it. When I went

to what did save, it was also obvious that the applet wouldn't work.

And I was still online at the time.

It's not your computer. It's not XP. It's the page and the way it's

designed.
