Re: Docx

All Office 2007 documents (like DOCX) are the new XML formats. You need to

install the Office 2007 compatibility update and get these saved into the

older 2003 formats.

This is probably a silly question, but you do have the actual Word program

installed, don't you? The converter won't work without Word itself.

you've had some strange answers..

I think they are Office 2007 files. But I have opened docx files

fine... Without Office 2007. Just as I could open Office 2003 files

before I had Office 2003.

It's a classic program Ms Make called MS Word Viewer

I googled now for Microsoft Word Viewer

or Microsoft Word Viewer 2007

Up comes this

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3657ce88-7cfa-457a-9aec-f4f827f20cac&displaylang=en

And I opened xlsx without office 2007. There is an Excel viewer.

Another generic option is a site like

http://www.youconvertit.com

Though last time I tried it I don't think they had docx. Not sure.

Tell your Office 2007 friend to change the default so as to SaveAs

Office 97/Word 7. So he/others won't have that problem in future.

2007 is still too new - the file format too new to be really

compatible, as one can see...

Or, as a one-off, he could save as RTF. That is very very very

compatible!

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the word viewer but no luck 'there was an

error opening this file' came up just as it does with the file converter

If it won't open with MSO 2003 w/Compat. Pack for 2007 nor Word Viewer,

the file is probably damaged.

try

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.word.docmanagement/topics?hl=en&lnk=sg

that newsgroup

microsoft.public.word.docmanagement

Maybe somebody there has Word 2007 and is willing to try to open it.

They can disable macros to relieve some fear.

Or You could ask the guy that made it, to save it as an RTF, or as an

MS Word 7 file.
