Acronis True Image v9 ... where is registration number kept with XP OS

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a new computer. I went to install my Acronis True Image v9 but low

and behold, NO registration number on the CD or sleeve. I have the retail

box but nothing is in it. Acronis cannot find my account so maybe I never

registered with them? It isn't like me not to register. I had to have had

the registration # when I installed and Acronis tells me it is on the Quick

Start paper that came with the software. I've no idea where that is; have

spent the day looking but no luck (if you could see my office, you'd know

why). I still have the old hard drive from my old computer, which I'm using

in a USB external drive container for backups. I can see my Acronis True

Image installation under Programs on this hard drive. I have a Boot UP CD

created by Acronis on Feb of 2007, plus my full backups .... Of course, for

my old computer.

Can anyone think of a way I might locate my registration number on the old

hard drive or on that Boot Up CD? I'm a home user and hate to have to

purchase the entire program again when I've already paid for it. I still

can't believe I can't locate that quick start paper, as I've got old

software and installation instructions here for stuff I bought back in the

90's (probably why I can't find what I really need, I'm a packrat).

If anyone can suggest how I might find my registration number, I'd be ever

so grateful. Acronis offered nothing other than they hoped I found my quick

start. :-)

My thanks for your time, if you've made it this far.

Re: Acronis True Image v9 ... where is registration number kept with XP OS

On later versions of True Image, the Serial # will appear in the Help,

About feature. It's doubtful the Serial # is stored in the Registry as a

"Plain Text" string. It's possible to load a Registry Hive of a inactive

XP setup, but I don't think it would help you. Also the Boot Media

made by Acronis doesn't store the license information as the XP part

of TI does.

If you have lots ( & I mean lots ) of time you can download Virtual PC

and restore your XP image to a virtual machine. Once that's done you

can open and retrieve the Serial # from the application itself.

*Sometimes fixing certain PC problems the following rule applies

Effort * Aggravation + Time expended is more costly than just

replacing the problem App/Hardware.

How much is your time worth to you? How much time have you wasted so far?

It may be more economical to simply buy a replacement.

You can still buy v9 for $21.95.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000DT87W6/ref=sr_1_olp_3?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1211408831&sr=1-3

Or get the latest version for $35.49. (You'll need this version if your new

computer has Vista)

Thanks for the links. I guess I've no choice. I had good results with v9 and

felt it was stable plus I already own it. You may be assured the new

registration number will be safely recorded this time.:-)

I did find my registration number for v8, so I can save a bit on the

upgrade.

My thanks for the replies.

You're welcome...and thanks for the feedback!

You'll be better off with v11.0. It has features that were not in some previous

versions. One is the ability to explore or mount a backup image from within

Windows Explorer. Very handy.

Mel - Just a thought - the Acronis Boot cd contains the complete True Image

program - you can use it to make backups.

And to restore.

And make clones.

And...

AJR,

I don't know which version you are referring to but it's not true of the latest

version 11.0. True, the rescue disk can backup and restore, even clone, but it

does NOT contain the full feature set of the installed version.

I've found this limited feature set to be the case in previous versions 7 and 10

also.

This might do the trick 'Free PC audit'

(http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html), it'll list all the programs

installed and the license keys... whether it works for Acronis I can't

say... it's a free 1.6mb download.

It certainly contains enough to do what most people would want to do

outside of Windows.

I use version 11.0, but the same thing happened to me. I had the serial

number stored on my failed hard drive (big DUH moment). I'm usually

meticulous about such things. Anyway, I ended up downloading the free trial

of version 11, which enabled me to restore my drive to the new one (I had a

full image stored, and it worked perfectly). Since you're a couple of

versions back, I don't know if that will work for you, but it's worth

considering.
