Fonts in Windows XP - Strange Changes

I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 on a Dell OptiPlex.

 

In the last few days I have noticed on the bottom of some pages in AOL

when opening a link or when sending error messages into Microsoft the

font on the screen looks like a leftover from Windows 3.11!

 

It also has the same look when I see the splash screen come up for my

fingerprint login software from Microsoft.

 

There is nothing I can recall changing of recent, it is all the same

video card and monitor.

 

About the only system change made was removing an extra USB card which

of course had me open the case.

 

I jumped into Regedit to clean out some old programs, and when I clicked

on File or Edit along the top a white hue was around them like they had

been selected for highlight.

 

Any thoughts?
