Serious error, can't access My documents, control panel

Every time when I try to open My documents, or My computer, control

panel, search, or any folder on my desktop, my computer crashes. It

says, on a blue screen(!) something like this:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent

damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you have seen this Stop error screen,

restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these

steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is

identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the

manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. If you need to

use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer,

press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe

Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E ( 0xC0000005, 0x804EB951, 0xF62A1BB4, 0xF62A18B0)

Beginning dump of physical memory.

Physical memory dump complete.

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for

further assistance."

--------------------------

After I press restart, and windows start up, a pop-up window comes up,

it says that my system has been recovered from a serious error.

Do I wish to send this error report to microsoft....

BCCode : 1000007e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : 804EB951 BCP3 :

F8965BB4

BCP4 : F89658B0 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product :

256_1

And this in the report...

C:\DOCUME~1\Josip\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER66a3.dir00\Mini052208-04.dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\Josip\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER66a3.dir00\sysdata.xml

---------------------------

I've read somewhere online that I can check the error report this way:

right click on My computer> Manage> event viewer > system....

I did this and properties of error were:

Category :(102)

Event ID: 1003

..... and then, some numbers....

-----------------------------

I can open only some documents on desktop which aren't in a folder and

some programs on desktop. From start menu I can open ONLY microsoft

word and powerpoint, notepad, Mozilla ...

-----------------------------

Before this problems started I've been trying to get a webcam to work,

Logitech, and I've messed with run>msconfig .... but I think I checked

it alright after...

and since I couldn't fix my webcam drivers I installed a program

called Splitcam, to get my webcam to work.

And I installed a new version of Nero for burning cd-s.

But I uninstalled the webcam and Splitcam with TuneUp Utilities, soon

after I started to experience these 'serious error' pop-ups and blue

screens....

I can't uninstall Nero, cause I can't access it on add/remove

programs...

And TuneUp don't shows it on the list of installed programs!

---------------------------------

I've scanned computer with AVG and ZoneAlarm, I got nothing for

viruses.

-----------------------------------

I have Windows Xp professional, with service pack 2.

-------------------------

Please, what can be causing this, and how can I stop it to crash every

time I try to open my folders!

Thanx in advance!

Dump / uninstall Tune Up Utilities. It is the type of software that can

create more problems than it solves!

Background information on Stop Error message:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms795746.aspx

0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

A system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not

catch. There are numerous individual causes for this problem, including

hardware incompatibility, a faulty device driver or system service, or

some software issues. Check Event Viewer (EventVwr.msc) for additional

information.

Source: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on

the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,

Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What

drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are

not checked.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried uninstalling Nero in Safe Mode?

What exactly do you have by way of a Windows XP CD?

No, I haven't tried uninstalling Nero in Safe Mode.

Because I'm not sure how to get into safe mode...!

I restart my computer, and as soon as it says 'beep' I press for a

couple of times F8, but then I have just 2 options...

and it's NOT this kind of screen (below)...I don't KNOW what it is...

"Windows Advanced Options Menu

Please select an option:

Safe Mode

Safe Mode with Networking

Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging

Enable VGA mode

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)

Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally

Reboot

Return to OS Choices Menu...."

I will try it again now...

Select Safe Mode from the list.

A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP

There are other ways to access Safe Mode but the way you are trying is

the best.

Re: Serious error, can't access My documents, control panel

Ok, I've managed to get into safe mode after couple times trying.

Here's what I saw...

In add/remove panel, there's NO NERO. (It's name starts with A, case

it's Ahead program)

http://i26.tinypic.com/b541ap.jpg

Also, there are NO BUTTONS for uninstalling!

And, I accidentally clicked on Windows components add/remove layer,

this is what popped out!

http://i30.tinypic.com/2zhpes0.jpg

I see that Nero is on my list of programs, so it's NOT uninstalled.

http://i25.tinypic.com/28b9zif.jpg

Then, I was browsing in C-hard disc to find Nero uninstall wizzard,

this is what happened:

http://i30.tinypic.com/2mopbis.jpg

I clicked on Nero icon which is on my desktop, and clicked

Properties...

Re: Serious error, can't access My documents, control panel

O, I fixed this!!!

Yey!

I did this(from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316434/ ):

1. Click Start, click Run, type sigverif in the Open box, and then

click OK.

2. Click Advanced, click Look for other files that are not digitally

signed, click Browse, locate the Windows\System32\Drivers folder, and

then click OK two times.

3. Click Start.

---------

I checked which of these sys files r NOT SIGNED and erased some of

them...

i know, I should have just move them to another folder.... but like I

said, I only erased some of them. (I checked properties of each and

concluded which can be the problem)

+ this

Go to start => run and type msconfig. Go to the startup tab and see if

there's a quickcam entry there. If so uncheck it and reboot the

computer. stay in selective mode tick the box and click ok.

Thanx for all your help!
