Hi all,

May have missed something simpe here.

I've got a 3 year old pc running Windows XP home with a high density floppy disk drive fitted as standard. We still need to use it for the odd thing but ecently we've run into problems.

Upon buying some new floppy disks to use we put the first one in, formatted it and then saved some files to it. A few weeks later we put the floppy disk back in and the computer wouldn't recognise the disk and said it needed formatting again.

As a result tried it on a few different disks and the same problem happened with each of them. Has anyone an idea what the problem might be?

The disks were stored safely so I don't think they'll have been wiped.

I thought it could either be

1) Disks have been close to a magnetic source??

2) Floppy disk drive has a problem

3) Disks are faulty

Any ideas?

New disks should not need formatting.

Bad drive probably.

Drive is failing. Happens with even new drives, especially floppy. The few that are left.
