Long once again discovers an interesting tidbit of information.

Apparently they're busy adding native VHD support to Windows 7. What sells this for me is the line:

taking an existing VHD you currently use within Virtual Server and boost performance by booting natively from it.

I currently have a windows installation in Virtual Machine that I use to install dodgy applications that I want to try out, or stuff that I need once (like WinRAR because somebody figures that some arcane archiving format is an ideal way to distribute their files) in order to prevent them from messing up my normal installation. Running this in VPC is less than ideal, but if I could just boot to that image? Delicious.

In an ideal world, you'd also be able to use the same Windows license for all Windows installations in VHD's on one system, but I guess that's wishing for too much.
