help needed please

Asus sli ready motherboard

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz

Memory: 2048MB RAM =4x512mb

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

330 gb harddrive space=1x250gb +1x80gb both ide.

1x cdrw

1x dvdrw

1x floppy

 

I built this pc myself,all new parts except the graphics card,

which a friend gave me from his pc after an upgrade.

and the harddrives they were used by me without any problems on another pc.

 

 

I have been having problems lately

with either a B.S.O.D.Appearing and Disappearing to quickly to read.

or the pc just freezes,and I have to reset,this has been happening randomly,

Sometimes it may not happen for a while ,then when it does it happens frequently.

it seems to happen when playing games online.

I have checked the registry sorted that with RegCure,

I have looked at my dxdiag and that appears to say my gfx card is ok,

I have Norton internet security upto date,

I have windows defender too,

I have been in my bios and loaded defaults,

I can load in safe mode or normal mode,

I do not really know anything much about the ins and outs of the OS.

Any light you could throw on the problem would be much appreciated

Since you've said that you have exhausted the possibility of a software problem, it sounds like it could be a hardware problem. The most likely problem is that one or more of your RAM sticks are faulty.

 

The best way to test this is by running memtest86+. This does take quite a while to complete, so I'd recommend running it when you're not wanting to do anything else for a while.

 

If you get any errors, it means that you're memory is faulty. It will likely tell you which stick it is (I can't remember if it does, sorry!) and therefore you should be able to find the cause.

 

Follow the instructions on this page to disable automatic restarting. Next time the blue screen appears, write down exactly what is shown and post it back here.

Thanks Jamey found out I am using the wrong ram,I was using ddr 333 and should have been using ddr400 ,the 333 doesn't store things in ram on this board ,so gotta get some more ram this ddr 333 will do for my brothers pc.

OK got another BSOD today think this is same as what is happening in all the others too.

You didn't say what you have done to your computer so far. Have you done a clean reinstall? Have you removed all sticks of memory except the ones that you know are correct and work properly?

 

That blue screen error is in relation to you graphic card's driver. So there is a possibility that you graphics card is on its way out. If you have onboard (integrated) graphics, try removing your graphics card and temporarily use the onboard one.

Ok the only thing I hve done now is remove all the memory,and add a new 1gb stick of ddr 400 pc 3200 memory, and i get this bsod with this error

My Asus motherboard does not accept dimm modules of 128mb chips or double sided x16chips

 

does double sidedx16 mean 8 chips either side cos that is what this dimm has that I bought.

The fact that you're getting a different error message when you changed the RAM suggests a hardware issue. Are all the drivers loaded properly as noted in Device Manager? Check to see all the drivers are updated. Continue swapping hardware: RAM, graphics card, etc.
