Guest carthman Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Hi hoping this group can help. I have IAS running on W2k3 server. When a client tries to authenicate the service stops with the following error... "The Internet Authentication Service service terminated with the following error: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. I have tried reinstalling IAS, still get same errors. Any ideas??
Guest digitap Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 RE: Internet Authenication Service Hello - I came across your post when I encountered the same issue that you were. When the IAS service started, the error: "Only one usage of each socket address..." appeared. I discovered that IAS has specific ports on which to connect (1812 and 1645 for authentication, and 1813 and 1646 for accounting). I checked IAS and removed 1645 and 1646. Once removed, IAS service stayed running. You might check this out too. Here is a link that will help you to reconfigure IAS: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/cd8b2cb5-9bbd-4e93-8d98-faf5f6f9957c1033.mspx?mfr=true Toby "carthman" wrote: > Hi hoping this group can help. Guest melonboy Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 RE: Internet Authenication Service Toby, It's 8pm and i have spent all weekend installing a new SBS server only to have this error. I was about to completely lose it until I saw your post. You have saved me from having a nervous breakdown! THANK YOU!
Guest digitap Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 RE: Internet Authenication Service Apparently, after installing MS08-037 (updates 951746 and 951748) Ipsec will randomly go into block mode and block all traffic to the server after a restart. After chasing this error around I found a solution on the ‘net. The update is to combat DNS spoofing. MS in their infinite wisdom chose to change the port DNS listens on. Before it would pick a port in the 2500 range, now it picks ports in the range of 1024-60000. When it picks a port that’s required for another service, IPSEC freaks out, crashes and goes into block mode and allows no connectivity to the server. Mike has run into this problem at least twice in the last couple of days. The fix is to edit the registry and add port reservations for IAS, L2TP, AUTD and IPSEC. A reboot is needed to put the fix into effect. http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2008/07/17/some-services-may-fail-to-start-or-may-not-work-properly-after-installing-ms08-037-951746-and-951748.aspx "carthman" wrote: > Hi hoping this group can help.
