boot.ini. Two questions

I wasn't able to create a NTBTLOG.TXT file. I need to see what causes my

computer not being able to restart properly.

So, I went to msconfig and had a look at my boot.ini file.

question 1) the checkbox are greyed out. Meaning, I cannot check the

"bootlog" box. Could it be possible (and safe) to add the switch \bootlog

manually? If affirmative, how should the editing be done, in msconfig, or

opening the file in notepad?

question 2) What is the meaning of the switch "\NoExecute=Optin"?

TIA

Re: boot.ini. Two questions

Why weren't you able to created a ntbtlog.txt file? What did you do to

try to create one? What happened when you tried?

When you reboot keep tapping the F8 key and select Enable Boot logging

from the list of options.

Re: boot.ini. Two questions

I did exactly what you say. No ntbtlog.txt file.

After I chose "enable boot logging", the window says "boot logging enabled",

and start procedure proceeds but no bootlog file is created.

To make sure, I made a search for all *log*.txt files, but no bootlog file

was found.

Re: boot.ini. Two questions

Um that's unhelpful.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and

verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked

and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need

to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that

the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.
