Pc Component help and suggestions please!

Hi all

 

Firstly want to say im new here so sorry if ive posted in wrong place.

 

Im not that great with pc hardware knowledge and with all new games coming out im finding it harder to run them.

 

I want to upgrade and have doen a scan to see what is my weakest link.

 

So far it always seems to be my cpu and graphics card.

 

Now id like to keep cost to a minimum but open to suggestions.

Heres a run down of what i have atm.

 

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+

 

RAM- 3GB

 

OS - Windows XP Home

 

VIDEO CARD - GeForce 7800 GT

 

At the currant time id say my budget is around £250 english pounds, but if suggestions state i might aswell spend more if i need.

Hi Lee, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, just so you know you haven't been ignored, but the guys who know more about this may not be on line till Monday, so if you can please hang on till next week, someone should be around to help you then.

Ideally we need to know if this is a laptop or desktop machine, the make and model number will help also.

Unfortunately I am no graphics guy, however if this is a laptop, upgrading graphics is virtually not possible.

On the other hand if it is a desktop tower box things can move on, however if intending to upgrade the graphics, quite often the power supply will need to be replaced with something bigger, so if you know the present size of the PSU in watts, that will be of help.
