Hi,

Have you used the disks in the drive before and it worked ok?

Normally if an optical drive us dead then it wont spin up/down and you would hear it doing either

Hi Dalo,

yes it used to work ok, when you put a disc in now, it makes a noise as if it is trying to read the disc, but cant, have tried lots of discs, but it seem to just do the same.

I would say that the drive is dead, open control panel and then system then device manager - any yellow exclamations?

In actual fact, you can get adapters that will go from IDE to SATA or the other way round so you could use that older drive if you wanted, providing it works anyway of course.
