I bought this laptop from a friend. It has XP on it. When my cursor is on

something for a few seconds it automatically goes there like I clicked it

when I didn't. Is this an XP feature or what? It makes me mad and I would

like to know if I can shut it off and how?

Thanks

Open the Control Panel and the Mouse icon. Under Pointer Options, make sure

the box is not checked to "Automatically move pointer..........".

Can you be a bit more specific than "goes there like I clicked it"? For

example, describe an icon on your desktop and explain what happens when

you move the cursor over it but do not click any mouse buttons.

It's called X-mouse. When the mouse rests in a window for a predetermined

time, that window is automatically selected. It can be turned off and

controlled using TweakUI.

It doesn't happen on icons. I will be on a webpage and the pointer will be

on a link for instance and before I can really read much on the page it will

just go to the site of that link. My computer makes a click kind of a sound

when it does it. It doesn't do it all the time either.

As Lance hasn't heard of Tweak UI, perhaps it would be in order to let

him know that it is a legitimate MS product and is safe to use; that

doesn't mean, though, that one shouldn't skip over the instructions. I

haven't used it in so long that I've forgotten what's in it, but I do

know that it's loaded with goodies. I've never understood why it was

never made an integral part of Windows.

Hey thanks to all of you I really appreciate it. I haven't gone there yet as

I just read your answers but I will. Thanks again.
