SP2 problem not mentioned before

When attempting to update Adobe, AVG etc, the process requests I download

SP2. When on the MS page for d/l of SP2 it states “Your computer has

already been upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). For tips or help

using it, see the SP2 support and how-tos.” I’m no technical bod but can

follow instructions and am now at a real loss what to do. My review of auto

update on 24th Dec 2007 shows SP2 download cancelled (not by me!). All d/ls

thereafter have failed. Has anybody any solutions/ideas?

Thanks

Run my free Svchosts Fix then visit the windows update page again. Download

it here http://pcbutts1.com/downloads/tools/tools.htm

Re: SP2 problem not mentioned before

Thanks pcbutts1, but the problem remains. I used; Remove it, FixIE, Winsock

repair and Svchosts Fix. It asked me to reinstall windows so I did using my

original XP disk.

When Windows desktop is loading this message still comes up 'htpatch.exe -

Unable to Locate Component' 'The application has failed to start because

WINIO.dll was not found. Re-installing the appication may fix this problem.'

Is this of any importance?

I will just keep trying various things until something happens!

Cheers

Re: SP2 problem not mentioned before

Htpatch.exe is a component for SiS AGP patch, which is only useful when the

processor supports Hyper Threading you can probably fix that by replacing

the winio.dll file. You can get it here

http://www.econsultant.com/dll-database-w/winio.dll-download.html none of my

programs will require you to re-install Windows so explain what you meant

about "it asked me to reinstall windows"

Chris, you've been posting my name in EVERY ONE OF YOUR POSTS ALL OVER

USENET, if you don't want to see me reply then stop posting my name in

your posts - it's that simple. Take my name out of your posts and I'll

stop replying to them. It's your choice, keep harassing me in every post

and I'll keep replying to defend my name.

So this is getting at you. Right? Now he knows your weak point and he can

continue posting your name in every message he posts here!

Why don't you sort your differences privately. The guy has got his

details online so it should be easy to contact him directly instead of

messing around here!!

I think "Leythos" lives for the chance to post to the buffoon... and

in doing so, he includes himself in that category.

Nah, it doesn't get at me at all, but it does expose the public to his

ethics, well, lack of them.
