What backup software to you like for XP? Acronis True Image? I've used

Genie-Soft and NovaStor (not impressed). All we need to back up is data files

and email. We use BING for disk imaging.

I use Acronis. You can do images and/or files. And this has been

asked over and over, and its a rather popular program. I even think

its 35$ +/- on newegg now.

I picked up a version 9 for about $10. But it still works.

What don't you like about NovaStor ?

I'm thinking about getting a few dozen copies.

Since you already have an imaging program that you like, True Image

might be overkill... but version 11 DOES do more than imaging and

cloning. It will also backup directories/files of your choosing.

Don't buy it direct from Acronis. Get it from Amazon or Newegg at a

moderate discount.

Another program that's cool is "Second Copy" (Google it). It is

highly configurable and will copy your data/files to wherever you

want. It won't copy/burn to optical media, however.

A simple utility named SyncToy Ver 1.4 (Not the 2.x beta as it has bugs)

might do the job:

I would create a test case so that you can verify the results with each of

Sync Toy's options, this way you will not put anything at risk.

You might want to check out SyncBackSE from 2brightsparks -- I have been

using it for a while and have been happy with it for backing up various

files/folders

(it can be configured to do lots of different things).

I use BING also for my disk imaging (or Image4Windows) from

terabyteinc - a bit

geeky, but works very well, and I have yet to have it tell me it had a

good image

then be unable to restore from it (unlike Acronis True Image - had both

versions

8 and 9 - they kept promising to fix the issues, but then released a new

version

instead - gave up on them).

Thanks for the suggestion. I've used SecondCopy in the past. Not being able to

burn to optical media is the problem. The customer wants to back up to CD/DVD.

The company. Shortly after the last time I bought it, as I recall, there was a

compatibility issue with XP or XP SP2 or some such. We were just outside of the

free upgrade period, so I would have had to pay again to get working software.

At the time, it seemed to me that there should have been a service pack or

maintenance upgrade at no charge. It's not a lot of money. It's the principle.

Once I get burned or even treated poorly by a company, I tend to avoid them. It

has no effect on them, but it make me feel better. It's a personal problem. :)
