"Virus Scanner" Program to "Cross Check"

Hi,

 

I have an "anti-virus" program that has a "shield", as well as a virus

scanner.

 

Most of you know, you can't have two anti-virus programs installed

at the same time, which will very likely cause a conflict.

 

" VIRUS SCANNER" Program to "Cross Check".

 

I would also like to have a good "virus scanner" program to "cross

check" files in the event that my anti-virus software might have missed

"something". Of course, the "scanner" will be from a different source than

that of my anti-virus.

 

I know there are a few "virus scanner" sites you can go to have your

PC scanned for viruses, but I have a dial-up (can't afford high speed)

connection.

 

Does a "Virus Scanner" program exist?

Before you type your password, credit card number, etc.,

be sure there is no active keystroke logger (spyware) in your PC.

First understand the technology.

 

"On Demand" -- This is where you tell the software to scan specific media, files or folders.

"On Access" -- This is where the resident anti virus software scans all files written/read

from media.

 

The rule of thumb is that you can only have one fully installed anti virus application

performing both "On Demand" and "On Access" scanning. However you can have numerous "On

Demand" scanners installed. It is the "On Access" scanners that can cause conflicts.

 

There are command line and GUI based "On Demand" scanners.

 

The free BitDefender is an example of a GUI based "On Demand" scanner.

 

My Multi AV Scanning Tool is an example of a command line "On Demand" scanner. My Multi AV

Scanning Tool provide the scanners for; Trend Micro, Sophos, McAfee and Kaspersky.

To use this utility, perform the following...

Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }

Choose; Unzip

Choose; Close

 

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT

{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

 

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your

FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

 

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}

This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.

This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.

The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

 

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can

download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files

needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key

during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe

Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

 

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help

file.
