Thumbnails - Randomly appearing on incorrect folders

I searched the forums, but was unable to find an answer to my problem.

I am a criminal law paralegal, and when I set up a folder for a new client,

I like to add a jpeg of his or her mug shot to the folder. I have Windows

Explorer view set to "View Thumbnails" so that I have a visual of each client

rather than just a name.

Additionally, if there are co-defendents which we are also representing, I

will have a main folder for the case, with subfolders for each client and

each client's mug shot in his or her folder. If there are co-defendents, but

we do not represent him or her, I will simply add the jpeg mug shot to our

client's folder.

Recently, I've had a problem that seems random, and to which I can not

attribute to any changes I may have made to my system. The thunbnails from

my client's folders are showing up on folders systemwide. Some of these

folders I have opened recently, some not. The only way to fix the problem is

to go to the folder options and restore default the picture from the

customize tab. But this only works if I start from the very last subfolder

and then do the same for each folder upwards until I reach the main folder.

In other words, I can't start at the main folder, make the changes, and

select "apply changes to all subfolders." As you can imagine, this is very

time consuming as this has affected at least half of the folders on my

system. Also, thumbnail mugshots have made somehow changed some of the

"non-customizable" folders i.e., My Pictures, My Documents, etc. So, I can't

fix those, as they do not even have a customize tab!

I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2

on a Dell Inspiron I6400 w/ a T1300 1.66 GHz processor and 2 GB RAM. Any

insight as to the cause and expecially the fix of the problem is greatly

appreciated!
