File cut in "File Open" (Excel)

From Excel's "File Open" dialog box, I cut the latest version of a file to

replace a previous version in a different folder. The previous version

remained and the latest version was deleted and it's not in the Recycle Bin

or anyplace else. Is this a bug? Windows XP Home SP2

This is by design - it's not a bug. "Cut" does not place a file

into the Recycle Bin - it puts it into the Clipboard.

Re: File cut in "File Open" (Excel)

Hi Pegasus,

I think Gone means that he/she tried replacing an Excel file of the same

name by cutting it from one folder and overwriting an Excel file of the same

name in a second folder.

Then when Gone opened up what was expected to be the newer version of the

Excel file in the target folder, all that was there was the contents of the

original Excel file, and the newer revised Excel file in the first folder no

longer existed.

Gone, for what it's worth, I generally try to never cut a file to put it in

a second folder. I always Copy the file to the second folder and once I'm

sure it's there and has the content that I expect, I go back to the first

folder and delete the file.

I realize that this is not going to help you now, unfortunately.
