Problem with device driver

OS=XP/SP2 up-to-date. Device Manager reports the CD-RW CDR-7S52, Driver

5.1.2535.0, is working properly, but when I try to use it a blue screen

appears and the computer must be shut down. On reboot a message says the

system has recovered from a serious error. Microsoft error reporting responds

that the problem was caused by a device driver. The Windows Hardware Update

Wizard, searching Windows Update, finds no better match than the driver being

used. Windows has never failed to start with the device connected. Anyone

have a solution?

Re: Problem with device driver

It may not be the base Optical driver but one that is applied by

your burning software ( such as Easy CD or Nero ). Usually it

is considered an Upper or Lower Filter driver. It allows the

burning application to "hook" into system calls related to making

a CD or DVD recordable disk. Most times you can open the

details box for the device, Driver (TAB), Driver Details (button)

and examine the list to locate any 3rd-party or non-Microsoft

drivers used for your device. ( Will appear in the provider list ).

Re: Problem with device driver

Check with the manufacturer of the CD for an updated driver or a copy of the

current driver.

Re: Problem with device driver

R. McCarty: There are two drivers involved provided by Nero AG. I'll check

and see if there are updates for those. If not, perhaps I can download the

and overwrite with the same ones to see if that solves the problem. Thanks

for the direction.

Thanks. I'll do that, too.
