Blank Script Errors ... Please help

Recommended Posts

I'm having issues with Script errors. I tried deleting the account and files

and made sure that Documents and Settings didn't have that user anymore.

However, when I created a new account, the errors didn't disappear.

When I tried to set a password and opened Users from Control Panel, even

that User window showed script errors.

When the window opens so I can check the script error, everything is blank,

Line, Error, etc.

I noticed this when I was browsing Overstock.com. When I click on Search(red

button), the yellow triangle appears in the bottom left. And when I click on

the triangle, the window opens up and there is nothing listed in the window.

I might have had this problem before Overstock.com, however that's when I

noticed it.

I have Windows XP SP3, IE7, All updates.

I have reset the IE7 settings in Internet Options, I've deleted all temp

files.

None has helped.

Hope someone sheds a light on this.

Thanks

I've already checked those two items. But it didn't help me with my problem.

A full URL would be more helpful if you want somebody to confirm your observation.

The most likely explanation is that the page is incompatible with your browser.

You could probably get better diagnostics by invoking a script debugger.

Then instead of posting in the IE6 NG it would be better to post in the IE General NG.

Re: Blank Script Errors ... Please help

First, thank you for your response.

This happens when I open User Accounts in Control Panel, also.

I'm thinking it has to do with Windows XP itself.

I'm unable to re-add another user since I've deleted the user that it was

having problems

The pc works fine from my account, however when I create another account and

I want to assign a password or change picture, I am unable to get to User

Accounts because I get the script error.

It isn't only from within IE7. And the website I was talking about is the

homepage of http://www.overstock.com.

The page loads without any errors, however when I type something in the

search bar of the website, and as soon as I click on the red Search button,

a yellow triangle appears in the bottom left corner of IE.

Sorry if I misinformed you.

Thanks again,

G

The only "red" button that I can see there is in an ad for O-Mail,

labeled Join Now. Perhaps you should refresh your cache?

E.g. press Ctrl-F5 at least.

Hmm... I can simulate a problem with the site using Prompt for Active Scripting.

E.g. after the 10th prompt I finally get to see some of the page and then reply No.

Any other combination of Yeses and Nos seems to work. When that happens

it may have something to do with a doubleclick ad, so if you are trying to suppress

ads perhaps you should stop doing that and see if your symptom changes? <eg>

> a yellow triangle appears in the bottom left corner of IE.

There is some kind of recovery after the script error that I induced

so it's not surprising that there is no clear message for that.

For Jscript Errors, you might look through the suggestions on this web site:

http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=javascript+errors

You might try these first though.

Repair 5.6 Scripting Engine install:

Click, Start, Run, type

Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Click OK

Click Start, Run, type

Regsvr32 jscript.dll

Click OK

Re: Blank Script Errors ... Please help

I've tried to register the dlls, however that didn't solve the problem.

I've discovered that since I couldn't close the script error by clicking Yes

or No, the window wouldn't go away, so I had to close mshta.exe from the

Process list in the Task Manager.

Would this give any hints as to what's going on with my computer?

I'm including a screenshot of the script error.

Hope this helps

No idea why you're getting a blank script error, unless it's associated

with malware. But try this:

Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any files are damaged

or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so

damaged files will be replaced.

There are plenty of articles on the file.
