More than one scope on DHCP server

Hi all,

We're runing out of IP addresses on our current subnet (ie 192.168.1.x). My

thought was to create a second subnet (ie 192.168.2.x) with the use of

VLAN's, but im unsure of how the DHCP will work. I want to maintain just one

DHCP server - is this possible, and how would it typically be setup?

That should work OK with VLANs. You set up two segments (or vlans) which

can route from one to the other. As long as the router supports DHCP relay,

requests received in the segment without a DHCP server will be relayed to

the DHCP server in the other subnet. This relayed message will include the

IP on which the request was received so that the DHCP server will allocate

an IP address from the correct scope ( and therefore in the correct IP

subnet).
