JayCee6828 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 How can I unlock a locked folder on Windows 7 please. I have googled and found some methods involving the command line but they wouldn't work for me. When I start the computer I do not enter a password or user it just comes on as me and I am the administrator. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Jay this depends on what folders you are trying to unlock? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
JayCee6828 Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 It is folders that have a padlock icon next to them, I guess they have been locked by the operating system - like c:\Documents and Settings Quote

JayCee6828 Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks Jelly Bean, that works. I had ticked full control in the properties but didn't realise you also have to go to advanced and set permissions. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Excellent Jay.......Glad it is sorted out for you.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Dalo Harkin Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 This normally happens if you added the files/folders under XP say onto an external and then tried to access the drive on W7. There are various methods to unlock the files from the above to modifying the registry Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
