DanH Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Hi guys, Looking at building a new PC for gaming and simulation, please check out the spec and let me know your thoughts please!? I know the new 2600k is out but im still tempted to stick with the 950? Nexus Edge (already have) Gigabyte GA-X8A-UD9 Intel Core i7 950 ASUS ATI Radeon 6970 2048MB Corsair H70 Liquid CPU Cooler G.Skill Ripjaw *GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz PSU, HDD, Optical drives etc - undecided (I have a 750W PSU which is brand new already) Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 All of that will be fine, if not a bit overkill. Remember that the most important factor when gaming is the resolution of the monitor you plan on using. that card is more than enough for a 24'' screen, if you however only have a 17'' then its overkill... Yes the 950 will be fine, and has more hyperthreading 'lanes' than the i5 2600K :) The K on the i5 chips just mean it has a fully unlocked multiplier for overclocking Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
DanH Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Thanks for your reply Dalo. I am planning on getting a 24" screen and thought it would be better to get one decent GPU then 2 or 3 smaller ones on SLI/Crossfire (to me its just more to go wrong and replace in the long run) Just got to wait for my bonus in a months time now! :-) Cheers! Dalo Harkin Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Yes it is better to have one better card than 2 lower spec ones running in SLI/Crossfire. Only a handful of games (compared to those available) offer improved FPS with SLI/Crossfire Get the best card you can afford for simulators, because they are resource hungry both CPU and GPU :) and make sure the case you have has sufficient cooling as they also generate massive amounts of heat Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
