Windows logon screen

I have an issue with the logon screen on my Windows XP Home edition. I

recently format my hard drive and reinstall XP. Since then, whenever I logout

of windows and then try to login again, the cursor is not available. It only

shows the arrow and not the cursor when I try to click on the password logon

box.

It will be fine after I restart the computer and then I was able to type my

password. But then it will happen again when I logout and try to log back in

again.

What might be the issue how can it be resolved?

After you reinstalled XP did you install the Video driver for motherboard of

video card?

If not do not use Microsoft's Windows Update to get the driver, but use your

Video card's

manufacture's web site to download the latest version for your PC.

I've got the same thing happening intermittently on one of my computers. I've

yet to come across a permanent solution.

There is a workaround you can use instead of having to restart your computer.

The next time this happens, at the Welcome screen hit the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys

twice. This should bring up the Logon to Windows dialog box. Enter the user name

and password of the other account. An alternative approach would be to go into

Control Panel -> User Accounts and clicking on "Change the way users log on or

off". On the next screen you can uncheck the Welcome screen and hit Apply

Options. Now when you log off, you'll see the Logon to Windows dialog box

instead of the Welcome screen.

Take a look at this article from Microsoft for more info.

You cannot type your password in the "Welcome" logon screen in Windows XP

Good luck
