Guest Heather Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Saw this today on the antivirus group......but I doubt that I will go back to it. Confusing as Avast can be at times, I think I prefer their detection rate and the fact that it always updates.......not like CA. But it is worthwhile knowing it is out there. Heather 1 year FREE trial of CA Anti-Virus http://home3.ca.com/SubscriptCenter/MSTrialRegistration.aspx?cid=573
Guest Joan Archer Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Re: Free Year of CA Antivirus I took CA off Johns computer and installed Avast so I doubt if I'll put it back on even though It's free, didn't it used to be free before Heather I seem to recall that you ran it for quite a while like that. Guest Heather Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Re: Free Year of CA Antivirus Yes, I used it since it was Inoculate It PE.....eons ago. Kept finding free copies via Microsoft and finally went to Avast a year ago when I had to pay for it. So Avast took some getting used to cuz I had only ever used Norton (yech) before, I think. Oh, and I used to have the manual one on here......memory fails me......aha, F-Prot. Good little proggie that was. The man who wrote that (Fridrik Skulason, I believe) was amazing. As you know, I am a genealogist, but this man has EVERYONE IN ICELAND on his database. Now that is Amazing!! Cheers.....Heather "Joan Archer" <archer_joan@nospam.com> wrote in message news:%23CqSNsDwIHA.3780@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >I took CA off Johns computer and installed Avast so I doubt if I'll put >it back on even though It's free, didn't it used to be free before >Heather I seem to recall that you ran it for quite a while like that. > Joan > > -- > Joan Archer > http://www.freewebs.com/crossstitcher > http://lachsoft.com/photogallery > > "Heather" <figgyd@nospam.invalid> wrote in message > news:e0fiDADwIHA.5832@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Saw this today on the antivirus group......but I doubt that I will go >> back to it. Guest Heirloom Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Re: Free Year of CA Antivirus I have CA on my mother's machine. I don't especially like the program....it is too bloated and not user friendly. Their renewals are too expensive and the scan is painfully slow. As soon as her subscription runs out, Avast! or AVG will be on her machine!! Heirloom, old and free is all CA is worth.......IMHO "Heather" <figgyd@nospam.invalid> wrote in message news:Oh9XmxDwIHA.3792@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Yes, I used it since it was Inoculate It PE.....eons ago. Guest O.J. Newman Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Re: Free Year of CA Antivirus Hi Heather: Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, the link disqualified me as a previous participant, since I tried this offer several years ago. Also, I noticed that CA A/V only supports Win 2000, XP, and Vista (and only the 32-bit edition of these). (See: http://shop.ca.com/virus/antivirus.aspx .) Win 98/ME are no longer supported, as is the case with most anti-virus products these days. The main exception to the rule seems to be avast!, which continues to support Win 9x/ME (thankfully) in their latest release. Cheers, O.J. Which is where GMail and throw away e-mail addresses can come to the fore. Not that I am bothered now with CA but if you were to do so don't try using any of Ossie Laden, Joe Blow, John Doe Jr., Harvey Pingu, AnonAnon and others I cannot now remember as they've all had their free licence. <eg> -- Mike Maltby mike.maltby@gmail.com O.J.
