I have an acer aspire 5535 laptop running windows vista, everytime i need to do a restart, it starts going through the process, but then the power shuts off , at first i thought it may be an overheating problem, but it happens when the machine has only been on for a short while aswell, :(, any help would be very much appreciated, thanks, Rob.

If you click on start, when the window comes up, at the bottom right there is a button called Shut down and then an > next to it clicking/hovering the > expands another window with the following:-

Switch User

Log Off

Lock

Restart

Sleep

Are you just clicking the main button, have you tried any of the other options such as Log Off? - do they work correctly?

it does sound like a combination of more than one thing to be honest, do you have any compressed air?

Hi again, i went on to the acer website to see if i could find any info on there about it, had a live chat to a technician, and he said it sounds like a power drain, and advised me to remove the battery after shutting off the power, and then re try restarting again, i tried that and it restarted fine, but if the problem arises again, i'll get back in touch, thanks for your help, Rob
