Hi, this is my first post here, I hope I'm doing this right

Ok here goes, I'm quite computer proficient and have decided to buy all the parts and assemble a computer myself. I've looked at various tutorials and guides and stuff of what to buy. What I would like to know, is:

-are all of the parts compatible with each other?

-are there any other parts I need?

I'm sure I need some cooling fans... but not entirely sure which ones...

the case says I can have fans for various areas (such as powersupply.. but I THINK it has a cooling fan built in). And I KNOW that I need a fan for the cpu, but not sure which one :/

I'll provide the titles and PCWORLD links of all the parts I've added to my list. It would be GREATLY APPRECIATED if anybody could check through everything, make sure its compatible and suggest things which I may also need to add. THANKS

(I really hope I've posted this in the right place, I'm going to look like a right idiot if it isnt...)

Hello Chrispy, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help

First off, all the links you have provided lead to the same PC World page. So we don't have any details of the parts you have marked down for your self build.

Although I'm not much of an expert regarding self builds, I can tell you that it is not as difficult as some people imagine.

For example, If you're worried about compatability of component parts you can purchase mother board bundles that might include with the mobo...your CPU processor and your Ram (Random access memory).

You should also decide what you are going to use your computer for. For instance, you may be keen to play the latest computer games on your new machine, or video editing may be your interest. This being the case you would need a powerful CPU along with a decent graphics card.

However, if you're only going to be checking your email and writing the odd letter in MS Word, then you will not need to buy high end parts.

These things can have a big impact on your final parts bill...so think carefully about how you'll be using your computer. I would suggest allowing for a bit more than you think you'll need.

We do have a few people here that are experts in this area. So post your needs and ideas and someone will come along and advise you further.

I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :)

I wouldn't bother with PC World unless you are rich :)

For me ebuyer.com are good value, others may give you other recommendations - you should save some cash and get a much better choice.

I use Scan.co.uk: Computer Hardware and Aria PC - Computer Hardware, Components, Monitors.. at lowest prices

Scan stock all the mainstream parts, while Aria tend to have older stuff available too.

Give us a budget and state whether you need a monitor (size too) and what OS you would rather have (and if you need 32 or 64bit)

Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)

Asus P5K premium black pearl

4GB OCZ Reaper 8500
