Guest Noob Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I know that I am making this way too difficult but here is my question. I am removing an old 2003 (sp2) file server that has our root DFS (Domain based) on it. I have already moved all the files to the new 2003 (x64) server and updated the links in DFS. Now I need to move the DFS root target to the new server and keep the same name\share. Do I just create a new Root target? If this is true then when I create the new root I can't use the same name. So how do I do this? Any advice or direction would be welcome
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Re: Moving DFS root from 1 server to another Hello Noob, Create a duplicate root, wait a while and then remove the original root. If there is data on the old server, you can add additional root targets to the root. Once this is done, you can remove the original root target. If you use 2003 Standard edition, you have to install these before: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;903651 Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > I know that I am making this way too difficult but here is my > question. > I am removing an old 2003 (sp2) file server that has our root DFS > (Domain based) on it.
