Jelly Bean Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Hello there. I asume you you used and external CD/DVD rom drive to install windows? Your error is proberly you have an earlier service pack on the CD and a newer one on the disk.... Now your disk also is it OEM or a retail disk? A retail disk comes supplied with its own COA key and OEM comes supplied with a new computer/laptop. You CANNOT use a retail disk on the Acer One it is illegal. Were are your recovery disks that came with the Acer one? If you wish to use the old CD and it is OEM then you should delete the partition during install and create a new one.... Or use the recovery disks and an external CD/DVD rom setting first boot device in BIOS to USB external hardware. If you delete the partition using recovery disks then you will not be able to use the recovery disks to install windows as an instillation of windows needs to be on the hard drive to use recovery.. Or you can install windows as : http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/hard-drives-pen-flash-and-usb/10305-install-windows-using-usb-pen-drive-and-wintoflash.html Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

Plastic Nev Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 If F10 is no longer getting you into the recovery partition, trying the older XP disk may have either wiped the recovery partition or at least seriously damaged it. Do not try that old disk, even if it did load, it be flagged as ilegal the minute it went looking for activation and for updates from Microsoft and may even shut down. There are only two options left. The first and possibly cheapest is the disk from Acer. To buy a new and fully legal copy of windows which is the second option, is a lot more than what Acer want. Synapse Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I agree with both of the above. Attempting an install of Windows with a CD will have rewritten the boot options, that is why you cannot use the recovery partition any more. There will no doubt be more than one file missing, copy one over and Windows will ask for the next, and the next, and so it goes on in to many hundreds of files. There is no way to deal with unless you have the right disc and run a full reinstall. I'd also recommend you go to Acer for the correct CD, its cheaper than buying Windows and all of the correct drivers and settings are prebuilt in to the install. Half an hour and its done. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I agree with both of the guys.....Your recovery partition is either gone or corrupt.... I would sugest either contacting Acer for a set of recovery disks or buying a retail disk.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

Jelly Bean Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Your welcome. I cannot understand why Acer did not supply the disk as my childs Acerone had the disks in the box. Try advertising on FaceBook if you use it........Or try buying on eBay or Amazon, look for the cheapest prices. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
LukeM Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Didn't know it was illegal to use a retail copy of Windows on an Acer Aspire One? :o Well good luck! Quote
Synapse Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Its not illegal as long as you use the corresponding licence key that came with that copy of Windows. Microsoft are really picky about licensing, they say that OEM copies, ie the ones that are installed on your computer when you buy them, or ones you buy as a system builder can only be used on that specific machine they are installed on and are non transferable. They also say the licence key is tied to that specific CD. In some ways a bit silly as most OEM CD's are identical except the version of Service Pack. Legitimate Retail versions can be moved I think 3 times, but I'd have to check. The licence keys are also different to OEM so a retail CD won't install and activate using and OEM key that is stuck to the bottom of a PC. Perhaps all a bit silly, and there are a number of workarounds, especially for USB installs on netbooks. Most of the wise forums won't tell you how to do it because it contravenes licensing, not because they don't want to help........ Quote
