CRC failed in vcredis1.cab

On two different MCE 2005 system when updating to the new AVG 8.0 anti-virus

system I have problems.

The download from AVG is OK, because I have it updating OK on a third

similar MCE 2005 system.

After download, when running the exe I almost immediately get (between

quotes):

"AVG Free Edition

Extracting license_us.txt

Extracting avgsetup.exe

Extracting sporder.dll

Extracting vcredis1.cab

CRC failed in vcredis1.cab

Unexpected end of archive"

All of above is within a black background. In addition the last 2 lines are

highlighted in green.

Investigation of the AVG side leads me to the conclusion it is not an AVG

problem.

I'm at a loss as to why I have EXACTLY the same problem on 2 similar but

completely independent computers.

Help

You're probably having difficulties because there are apparently a lot of

issues with AVG 8.0. Either use something else - Avast free is nice and

NOD32 is excellent (although not free) - or post in the Avast user forums.

The CRC issue lies within the AVG installation file or the HDs of the 2

MCE systems. You can test the AVG file with this method but it may take

quite sometime :

http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_fix_a_cyclic_redundancy_check_error_when_i_try_to_copy_a_file.html

Is AVG 7/7.5 present and are you updating from within it to V. 8 ?

IF yes, uninstall the previous V prior to installing V 8:

http://free.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-1238#faq_1238

That's the Installation FAQs page for AVG 8 Free Edition.

Read - ' AVG installation file is corrupted ' as it mentions the CRC error.

Re: CRC failed in vcredis1.cab

Many thanks.

It got to the stage that I couldn't even install version 7.5 again.

Used CCleaner to clear rubbish from computer and downloaded AVG 8.0 again

from the grisoft site and everything was OK.

I then transferred the downloaded file to my other computer without doing

any clean-up and it was OK.

I have had to conclude there was something wrong with the previous

downloaded files.

Thanks again.
