I recently installed a third party package which "encountered a problem and

needed to close" during the installation. Following a re-boot I can no

longer uninstall software, copy and paste items on my hard drive or to

outside drives, I have no network connection tools, system restore won't

function, even in safe mode from the command line. I can't use backup or

restore either.

This happened once before and I had to re-install everything from scratch

and I deperately don't want to have to do that again.

Help, Please.

I would attempt a manual system restore:

Since you're desperate about not having to re-install Windows, why

don't you make the effort and create an image file of your system while

it is in good nick, e.g. by using Acronis TrueImage?

Once before ?, attempting the same installation. What program was

being installed ? With Safe Mode inhibited, did you try to boot with

"Last Known Working Configuration"? I've never experienced a

failed install that leaves the system in such a highly limited condition.

There aren't many options available with so many normal recovery

points not working.

Re: Loss of Services

I didn't see that option - do I have to boot from the cd for that?

The package is called Wonderware. It's a wll know GUI package for process

control applications

Re: Loss of Services

No, you just press the F8 trigger until the Safe Mode options screen

appears, then toggle the highlighted selection to "Last Known Good..."

and press Enter to proceed.
