My mums friend isnt very computer svay but isnt a complete beginner, she had and old dial up account with Freeserve, which then got taken over, and recently got an email from Orange that said as she hadnt used her account in 17mths she would lose her email address if she didnt sign up again, she forwarded this message to me and ithought it looked dodgy as it referred to her as "Dear Customer", so i told her to delete it. A couple of days later she went to send an email and all her contacts from her address book were missing and she couldnt send emails. She got a new email address from her supplier and can now use this but she doesnt know why her address book is empty, she uses outlook express. I dont use it much myself but do have it set up and i also have recently moved to a new provider ahd obviously my address book is still full of my original contacts, wondered if the message she received contained a virus that has wiped her address book? Hope someone can give me a shove in the right direction to help her Cheers!

I am not good with Outlook Express but try:

When you say you "lost" your contacts, do you mean they

aren't showing in your email program window? If so, then click on "View",

then "Layout", and finally, put a checkmark in front of "Contacts".

If that's not the problem, then you should search for files that end in

".wab" or "PST" on your computer.

What version of Outllook is she using?

Contacts refer to Windows Mail in Vista or Windows Live Mail in Windows 7. Both are email clients like Outlook Express or Outlook which is part of Microsoft Office.

Now if her friend is using web based mail instead of a email client that is totally different. I see that you said Outlook Express so it must be Windows XP or earlier.

Is there any chance you can personally check it out? It could be several things including a virus so any information on the security would also be helpful.
