System Restoration incomplete

I'm using windows XP home and downloaded a new version of the nero 8.3.2.1

burning software and installed it. After I installed the nero software, my

antivirus software then detected several viruses ( cbX0hhev.dll,

pmnliiJB.dll, tuvTnKcA.dll "VIRUS DISCRIPTION = Win32:Vundo@dll[trj]" ) and

then deleted them. After that, my pc became so slow and then when I tried to

restore the system to the date before I installed the nero program, it would

display that restoration is incomplete even to an earlier date or any date in

particular. Everytime i try to connect the internet the same virus is being

detected again by my antivirus software. I really need help on how to restore

the system to the point where it wasn't infected. Should i just reformat my

PC?

Re: System Restoration incomplete

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements? What firewall

are you using?

Have you tried restoring whilst in Safe Mode?

Hope this helps.

Re: System Restoration incomplete

Yes, i've tried restoring it in safe mode and it has the same result. the AV

im using is Avast antivirus, no anti-spyware arrangements 'coz I dont have

one.

the firewall i'm using is the microsoft windows firewall. Right, now I've

installed the AVG v.8.0 but it has little effect. cant seem to restore to any

date prior to the infection.

Re: System Restoration incomplete

Avast does interfere with System Restore.

Item 3 in the latest version of 29 March 2008

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-4-home_pro-revision-history.html

The Self Defense function does not work in safe mode. There is also a

programme setting whereby this function can be disabled.

I am not aware of any problems with AVG v.8.0. That is not to say there

aren't any.

I would add Spybot S & D to your security.

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

You could be suffering the consequences of viral damage. I would

reinstall System Restore.

Re: System Restoration incomplete

Hey Gerry,

Thanks man for everything. It helped me alot. The only downside in the

system restore re-installation is that it erased all restore points but its

better than suffering from not being able to restore at all.

Thanks a whole heap man.
