Hi,

I have a problem - my brother recently put two identical laptops (neither of which work anymore) together for me, replacing the hard drive of one into the other.

This laptop works fine in his house( wireless internet) , but when I try iit in my house, also with a wireless connection, I keep getting a blue error screen. I do manage to connect to the internet, but when I try to do anything e.g load antivirus, it just crashes and then I get the blue screen.

I would be so grateful for any help please.

This could well be the problem. (Although it seems strange that it works ok in one location ).

If you replace a hard-drive with another - presumably using the OS on the replacement hard drive - there are invariably problems. Windows is "clever" enough to recognise a different environment and, usually, refuses to boot unless the motherboard is exactly the same as the original.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

If the laptops are identical, then it shouldnt be an issue, problems arise when swapping an HDD from one system to another due to different chipsets and drivers used.

If they are identical then I would try and get the fault code from the BSOD

Are you able to restart the laptop and then repeatedly tap F8 key and choose last known good config or safe mode?

Do either of these get you up and running without a BSOD?

If yes then I would update hardware drivers....

Apologies for the late reply. No- I have tried the F8 key and no joy. My brother is going to be coming this week sometime to try himself the laptop here. IF no joy, then I will show him all the replies you have so kindly provided. I wil post the result and update.

Thank you so much, your help is so much appreciated.
