I am trying to clean up one of the kid's computers & am encountering the

following.

Normal startup, I get a blue screen, saying windows has detected a problem &

has shut down to prevent damage to the computer.

I can boot into safe mode, though.

I tried a repair install & am back to getting the bluescreen.

At this point, should I just wipe out the HD & start from scratch?

Re: Bluescreen...

log back into safemode

click on start>run then

type/enter msconfig

go to the start tab

and jot down what

all is check because

you want to disable

all of them at this

time.

then go to the services

tab and enable/hide

microsoft services.

what will be left is

a listing of non microsoft

services so jot them

down and disable them

as well.

then reboot and see

if you can log into

normal mode windows.

Hi Mike,

Depending on what may be the problem, sometimes reinstalling clean can

be the fastest way. Especially with SP3 out now, you won't waste so

much time downloading all the updates if you have at least an SP1 CD.

Sometimes malware can be so pesky it's a waste of time trying to remove

all of it. If you can boot into Safe Mode and backup what you need,

that may be the simplest way. Of course if it's only a driver issue,

that could usually be resolved quickly.

Did you try a System Restore back to a time when it was working properly?
