i have what looks like a system folder stuck in the recycle bin. the name is

a string of numbers and letters...46c30a etc...the bin icon shows trash is in

the bin, paper in the waste bin. but exploring the bin reveals nothing.

choosing empty recycle bin asks if i want to delete this folder, but still

remains after emptying. anyone know how to delete this folder?

thanks

dave

The content is likely an "Unpacked" hotfix or other update. You may

have to boot to Safe Mode and delete the entire bin. Otherwise you

would need to modify the ACL in Safe Mode. Add "Everyone" and

Grant the user full rights on the folder/file inside the Bin. To do this,

Right Click the content and Left Click Properties, use the Security

(TAB) to work with the Access Control List. Add "Everyone" and

then in the privileges tic/check "Full"

Re: Recycle Bin lurker

The recycler folder or info files are probably corrupt. Try deleting the

recycler folder(s), Windows will recreate it when you reboot. From a

command prompt issue the following command:

rd /s /q c:\recycler

If you have more than one drive you will have to issue the command for

each drive, changing the c: with the appropriate drive letter. If you

have more than one user on the machine all recycle bins will be emptied.

Have you deleted anything lately from an external drive or USB stick

Dave. If so, you'll need to plug it back in to clear it.

John.
