Last night I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on my Dell Dimensions 4600. Since then I have had no sound. My sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit and when I tried to download Creative Sound Blaster audio driver 1.04.0090 this message was displayed:

Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Please ensure that your product is properly installed before running this setup program.

Setup will exit.

These where the details provided for the Creative Sound Blaster audio driver 1.04.0090:

This download is a driver providing Microsoft® Windows® 7 and Windows Vista® support for Creative Sound Blaster® Live!® and Audigy® series of audio devices. For more details, read the rest of this web release note.

This download supports the following audio devices only:

Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit

Sound Blaster Audigy Value/SE/LS

Sound Blaster 5.1 VX

Requirements:

Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 7 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Vista 32-bit with SP1

Sound Blaster audio devices listed above

Notes:

This driver is only for the Creative Sound Blaster audio device listed above.

DO NOT install this driver for other Sound Blaster audio devices.

To install this driver

Download the file onto your local hard disk.

Close all other Windows applications.

Double-click the downloaded file.

Follow the instructions on the screen.

As it supports my Sound Card and Windows 7 32-bit I have no idea what to do now! Any help would be very helpful.

Thanks

Sean

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Longy.

The Message you are seeing, is that for some reason, Windows itself may not be seeing it.

That could be due to a poor connection, so first try removing the sound card, wipe clean the contact strip on the card and reinsert it into the connector.

Knowing that card I assume it is the PCI version and easy enough to remove the fixing screw to remove the card.

Once sure it is properly installed, try it again.

Let us know if that helps or not.

Nev.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Since then my keyboard has also gone. When I boot up my PC I get a message saying "Keyboard failed". I'm currently using the on-screen keyboard and it's very frustrating. Does it sound like my motherboard hasn't reacted well to Windows 7?

I doubt it is a motherboard fault due to installing Windows7. The keyboard fault could just be coincidental. If possible, is there any chance of trying that keyboard on another computer even a willing friends? or even borrowing one from them to try on your computer. That would give us some clue as to it being the keyboard itself faulty or some other issue.

I just hope nothing else goes wrong while trying that:D

Have you yet had chance to remove the sound card and clean the contacts as suggested?

I give up on it when I first posted and just come back to it tonight. I have a friend coming round who will help me tomorrow so will remove the sound card then. I'll get him to bring his keyboard down too so I can see if I need a new one. Thanks for the reply and I will keep you posted if I can't sort it out.
