Have new HP p6598uk desktop PC and its not got a firewire port. Need this to transfer data from Panasonic NV-GS5 mini DV camcorder. Have managed to get a PCI-Express firewire card from Lindy and although a bit of a beginner it does not look too difficult to install in the PCI slot which is available. Problem is having connected the Lindy internal cable to the card the other end is a Y split four prong socket, Male or Female. Contacted Lindy Techs and they say it should connect to sockets spare coming out of PSU but the two sockets that seem to be spare are the wrong connectors and the techs say that most computers are compatible. Any idea what is wrong, seem to be fighting a losing battle.. Thanks.

If there isn't a compatible plug/socket spare coming from the power supply, there is really only two ways of sorting this problem.

The first and easiest is to send the card back and find one that doesn't need extra power connection. I fitted one to my XP machine that didn't need extra power so they are available.

The other option and less easy is swap the power supply for one that does have compatible socket/plug spare on it.

Nev.

From reading your post I have no idea what the issue is.

Most PCI cards draw power directly from the MOBO via the slot itself

Any cables that come from the card will attach to the MOBO for data transfer purposes the same way that USB ones do:-

They connect to the 1394 port on the MOBO
