Evenstephen Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I have a Dell Latitude D400 laptop which I have given to my girlfriend as a present. We had to make a couple of changes though. 1. I had to replace the mousepad because the previous one had become faulty but in the end we replaced the whole top case with the exception of the keyboard which was working fine. 2. Replace the old battery because it didn't work anymore. When booting up the laptop afterwards after the initial opening screen I get two beeps abd a message which says the following. 'Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 not found' then it tells me that there are no bootable devices. When I used the laptop before it worked very well. The OS is Windows Professional XP Pro SP3. When replacing the casing could something had happened to the hard drive? Any help would be much appreciated. Quote

joddle Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Hi - I had exactly the same issues with my Dell D400 - it all started with the little mouse button which did not work properly. I bought a new keyboard and connected it but then it would not boot up. What I had not noticed is there are two sets of cable to connect - not just one and they are pretty awkward to set up as you have to hold the keyboard in a odd position to fit them. I think what you may have is loose connections or even a connection not made properly/ -I have also fitted a new base to a D400 and so long as you follow the dell procedures as in their workshop manual it all seems to work fine. Take it apart again and reassemble carefully. You can always test the HDD in a caddy if not sure about it - does it show on the bios? Quote
