Disk Management - help

Hi,

I'm thinking of setting up a storage file server using win2008, however, I

have a few questions (I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to servers).

My server would have 8 or more SATA hard disks (using controllers). I know

that win2008 has the ability to extend volumes over multiple disks, which is

what I would like to do (8 disks into 1 volume).

So, lets say I had 8 disks, 7 of which were 1TB each, and 1 is 500GB, if i

wanted replace the 500GB (which would obviously have data on it), are there

utilities or applications that can move the contents of this disk onto the

other 7 disks, so that i can replace this disk?

I hope that makes sense.

Thank you very much in advance,

J.

RE: Disk Management - help

Hi julie

If you had 7x 1Tb drives and 1x 500Gb drives then I would guess that this

drive would be stand alone.

If that is the case then probably the easiest way to deal with this would be

to move the contents of the 500Gb drive to one of the 1Tb that has sufficient

room, that is assuming that there are no system files etc on it.

The question was a little vague but hope this helps a little.
