Windows 7 Home Premium Edition on Acer Aspire 5742G laptop

I have had a new Acer Aspire 5742G laptop and set up my user account . I have the username GARY and logged in to the account twice to try to access Windows. Tried to get back on this weekend. it allowed me just the once and now comes up with the error "user name or password not recognised". Am confused. There are no other users on. I hadn't even got that far! Had just logged out to try to create my son an account.

 

Anyone any ideas. I've tried burning an Ophcheck disk to amend the password and running it on the DVD-ROM and despite changing the boot order, even though the disk is spinning away merrily, the system just continues loading ignoring the CD. Help!

Hello Gary! Have you tried toggling the Caps Lock key on your keyboard and then entering the username/password? If yes, then what results does it yield?
