Can't Start Computer-Error Message

On startup I get the error message: service.exe application error. The

application failed to initialize properly. Oxc0000005 Click on OK to

Terminate the application.

 

When I research a fix for the 0xc0000005 it shows that message is for a

windows NT problem. I don't have windows NT. I have no idea what that is! I

have Windows XP Home Edition and I haven't installed any new software. I was

using my flip video last night and am sure that I clicked on the icon to

"remove safely" before I removed it. My computer was working fine when I

shut it down last night. I did download a PDF from a website. Hope I don't

have a virus!

 

I've tried starting in safe mode. No Luck.

 

I would appreciate any help!!! I have to access my computer!!!!

Windows XP is NT 5. It's built on the Windows NT core, just like Windows

2000 (NT4) before it.

Fortunately, it's very easy to gain access to files these days. Remove the

disk from your system and attach it to another XP system, and copy the

files over.

Thank you Patrick. You asked what happens next:

 

When I click OK to terminate the application my screen goes black. (If I am

in Safe Mode the screen goes black but the Safe mode words stay on the

screen). When the screen goes black I can't do anything. I can hit

CTRL/ALT/DELETE and nothing happens. I have also tried F8, etc. I then just

have to turn off the computer by holding the button down.

 

Regading removing my "disk" from the system to copy files to another Windows

XP system. That sounds great. I am computer literate as far as using

Microsoft word and other software applications. But do not have any advanced

knowledge. Therefore I am not sure what disk you are referring to for

removal from the system (yes I am a computer dummy in that respect!). Please

elaborate.

Try starting in VGA mode, not Safe Mode.

 

If none of these work, you may well need to perform some major system

maintenance, a repair install or a clean install.

 

Before you do either of those, before you go any further, you need to be

sure your system is backed up.

I mean the hard disk. Is your system a laptop or desktop?

 

If you need help to do this, it shouldn't be hard to find someone to help;

the process is not complex. You just need access to another XP system with

enough drive space, and a way to connect the drive. USB2 drive cases

start around $20 and make this very easy.

 

What you do after that depends on the type of install or recovery disks that

came with your PC.

I don't know how to start up in VGA mode. It doesn't give me that option.

I've tried every option that is listed on the screen at the time.

 

I have a desktop. I would love to back up my system. I have a laptop that

I'm using at the moment to contact you. It has Windows XP and is actually

newer than my desktop. My problem is that all of the data that is critical

to me is only on the desktop. I would love to hire someone to help me, but

I'm not sure how to go about finding someone who's reliable. I would

appreciate any feedback.
