XP - Device Disconnect sound for no reason

I just got my first USB printer and it seems okay. However, after I

turn off the printer, everything is normal for 10-15 minutes when

suddenly Windows will make the "Device Disconnect" sound for no

reason. I thought I would fix this by going to Device Manager and

unchecking "Allow Windows to turn off device to save power" on the

four root hubs - however, it just now made that sound again.

I know how to change or turn off Windows sounds but that's not really

the problem. It never did this before I got the USB printer (which is

a small HP inkjet).

Just delete WINDUMMY OSen from PC and install Linux.

Most of the drivers for printers (particularly older ones)

are automatically activated since its built in.

Try for example Ubuntu, Mepis, Knoppix, DSL etc..

http://www.distrowatch.com

The WINDUMMY platform is UNREPAIRABLE.

More viruses, malware, spyware, botnetware and trojanware

are released per day than all of the Micoshaft engineers and all of its

partners can release fixes.

The WINDUMMY ECOSYSTEM is now UNREPAIRABLE as well.

More than likely the printer going to sleep/disconnecting.

Check all other USB devices are operating correctly in case you may have

a driver conflict since installing the printer.

Does it make the "reconnect" sound when the printer is turned on, if so

then all is well and nothing to really worry about.

The sound happens when the printer is turned OFF - should it check

something or do something at all when it's turned off? When I turn it

on/off, it makes the appropriate noise. But 15-40 minutes later it

will make the Disconnect sound once more.

I thought it might be an HP program that came with the printer but I

don't see any sign of one running.

I found some older threads of the same complaint but there appears to

be no explanation for it.

Is there a "memory card" socket on the printer? Perhaps instead of

"Turning it off" you set it to "shut itself off" in the printer settings?
