Uncommanded Cursor Movement

When moving the cursor, it will suddenly jump to the side of the screen or

the edge of the window that I am working in. It seems to happen in all

windows: IE7, Firefox, Outlook Express, Excel

I first noticed this problem after the March XP update. In late April, it

appeared to go away. It came back with SP3. I have changed the mouse, but it

does not influence the problem.

Details.

Dell optical mouse connected via USB port (I am using this one on another

computer with no problems)

HP optical mouse connected via standard green connector

Dell Dimension 4700 Desktop, Pentium 4, 3GHz, Feb 2005

Win XP, Home, SP3

Any help is appreciated.

Does uninstalling SP3 correct the issue?

Optical mice will often do this if the surface they are on is even slightly

reflective. So the question will be, is there a mousepad in use?

Re: Uncommanded Cursor Movement

I don't want to uninstall SP3 because it fixed another problem.

Re: Uncommanded Cursor Movement

I changed mouse pads and that greatly reduced the occurrence of the problem.

Thanks
