Outlook window closes when minimized

Hi everyone. I'm having a problem with Outlook, where if I try to minimize

the window, it closes instead (though the program is still running). I've

found posts on here that suggest using the Taskbar Repair tool at

kellys-korner-xp.com, but it didn't work. It appears to be an Outlook issue

rather than a taskbar issue, because it doesn't happen with every program,

just Outlook.

 

Does anyone have any other ideas about what might be causing this and how I

can fix it? I checked and Windows has all the recent updates, so I don't

think that's the issue.

 

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it!

Then you should ask in an Outlook group:

 

microsoft.public.outlook.general

Thanks! I don't know why I didn't look there in the first place.

 

Turns out she (this is a coworker's computer) had somehow set it to hide

when minimized without realizing it. I didn't even know that was an option!

Oh well. At least I learned something new.

 

For future people who might experience this problem:

 

Right-click on the icon in the System Tray (by the clock) and un-check "Hide

when minimized."

Courtney, please don't be put off the rudeness of the person who

responded to you above. We are not all like this by a long shot. This

particular person has nothing better to do with his life than post

similar messages to newsgroups, berating well-meaning folks like

yourself for making a minor mistake.

 

He's been doing the same thing for years. He never does anything to

help anybody; all he does is complain. He frequently changes his

posting name to escape our killfiles, but it's easy enough to put the

new one in.

 

I'm not sure I understand your problem completely, but try this:

 

1. Get Outlook (or whatever program) to not be maximized. You can use

the Restore setting, click on the Maximize button or double-click the

title bar.

 

2. Right-click the Outlook icon on the task bar and then type "M" for

Move.

 

3. Use the arrow keys to move left or down. Once you start using the

arrow keys the mouse will work, and you can use the mouse to move the

window into view.

 

4. If that didn't work, the window is probably set to a 0x0 size.

Right click on the icon again, but this time, type "S" for Size. Use

the arrow keys, then the mouse as before to resize it.

 

If that doesn't help, you likely *would* be best off asking in the

newsgroup microsoft.public.outlook, where the Outlook experts hang

out.

Thank you, Ken. Don't worry, I've dealt with plenty of his kind! Some people

just have empty lives and try to fill them by being jerks on the internet. I

learn to deal with it. :)

 

However, I did take the advice of the first person who responded to me,

*politely* suggesting I look in the Outlook newsgroup. And I discovered that

the person who was having this problem (a coworker) had somehow accidentally

set it to Hide when minimized. And I just had to right-click the Outlook icon

in the system try and and un-check that option.
